Anyone out there make longboard skateboards? I'm trying to come up with a bending jig. I dont want to purchase pre-made blanks. I've been on board building sites but would like to see other takes on how to do it, especially with repeatibility . Bending jig dimensions/ layout? What thickness of baltic birch do you use? How many layers do you use? What type of glue do you use? e.t.c. Thanks!

I've gotton some great veneers off of E-bay. I now buy direct from a vendor I bought originally from E-Bay.
For filler veneers I use door skins. I can usually buy skins for less than a dollar a sq. ft.

Skateboards were just getting started when I left teaching 25 years ago, but we did make water skis. We sawed the area to be bent on the bandsaw and inserted 1/28" veneer, glued with powdered resin glue, and clamped in a cawl using the fire hose meathod. Worked great.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to start building the jig featured on diyskate while I wait for the lumberyard to track down the wood.
