I wanted to get some ideas from everyone on what others do for extra funding. Does anyone have local shops donate scrap wood or other supplies? What about fundraising? Anyone have some ideas? Just trying to update some equipment and have a very small budget to work with.
Thanks Victor

We cover a manufacturing unit in class and then set up the shop as a factory to make a birdhouse. We built 63 birdhouses in 50 minutes!! We then market and sell them to the community as our fundraiser. We have also thought about tee shirts to make some money. As for material, we get everything doanted. I am quite fortunate as there are several sawmills around, and their kids are in my classes. I mention to my students at the begining of the year that we get donated material and usually a parent will call to donate. We give a donation letter for them to claim off their taxes. Don't be afraid to talk with the kids. I save a ton of money this way. We just had a staff vs student basketball game were they charged $5 to watch the game, sold shirts, pizza, drinks, and a dance after the game. The made a TON of money.

you can do many things for fundraising and these are things I have done in the - a lot depends on your students and how much you want to make: end tables, turned pens, bread boxes

I also have a couple of people who donate wood from time to time in the form of logs which I can cut down and mill.

You have to have a feel for what your area will handle -- another suggestion is build a playhouse and sell tickets at 5 dollars a piece with a max of lets say 1000 tickets --

hope this helps

I sell "enjoy the city" discount books. I also sell projects the students make.

To make a little extra money for the shop I bought a used snack vending machine off ebay. The school supposedly had a healthy food policy, but from what I saw the kids getting out of the vending machines in the cafeteria I couldn't figure out what it was. My room was end of a dead end hall, so I didn't have extras stopping in to purchase, it was just stuff kids got and ate in class while they were working. I figured if they were buying it in the cafeteria and bringing it in I might as well just supply it there. Mainly I put in chips and cookies, but they loved honey buns and moon pies.

Now they've shut my program down and I've retired so I've got an extra vending machine.

Do you have a Applebee's restaurant in your area?
We did an Applebee's Pancake Breakfast this past March and made $1800.00 for our program...

Bob,
How does that work???
More info please...
I'm in a very rural area and don't have franchise restaurants within 30 miles but I may be able to use the premise...
All the best,
Joe

Here is some information on the Applebee's Flapjack Fundraising. Perhaps there may be other resturants in your area that offere something like this. I know we will do this every year. We sold over 400 tickets.
