My school has been overwhelmed by disapline problems. The administration is in the "let's build a case by letting the list of referals and detentions, suspentions build up till the teachers can't take it anymore, mode" I have been using the tela-parent system daily to get calls made to parents but to no avail. I have 2 classes where we have stopped any shop work and we only write standards and now they are not bothering to do that either. I can only find fault in the parents for doing a really crummy job of fostering polite and respectful behavior in their kids. I've been teaching shop for 15 years and have been forced to take the retirement option that was offered this year or face the layoff with no money coming in. I have ashot at a construction teaching job but I really don't know if I want to stay in education anymore. This last year and a half were really bad. Good luck with your kids and hope for a better next year. Yeah right

Hey guy's half the people in the world are dumber than the other half. Only the top 10% of graduating hs students get accepted into a 4 year college and only the last 10% actually graduate with a degree.( federal stats) someone needs to stop the merry go round and change the way we educate and train our students. All the best beginning jobs are going to young people over sea's. Our kids are being left behind because the federal powers to be are trying to force everybody into college. No one is learning how to work. Education is theory anyway.

You will need an Industrial technology credential with a BA in the same general area. But it is one thing to be in a wood shop class and another to be the teacher of a wood shop class. An Indian Chief would be better and pay more.

When the district gets the OK to purchase equipment Order 2 of everything in the cataloge. I'm not kidding. Order two and then some of sertain tools. Don't try to order just what you lost. The insurance is paid separately from the district funding. SO DON"T BE SHY about what I've just said. Good Luck Steve you got my drafting lessons use them.

High everyone!!! Long time no talke!!!This topic hits me hard right now since the beginning of this year I have been overwhelmed with unlearners, who would rather cause havoc than build. I've had to shut down working and go to books and tests more than 5 times since september. This year will probably be my last as a middle school shop teacher. I think that the wood/craft shop at my school should be eliminated. Specifically because of the behavior that the kids are bringing to the table. And yes shop teachers from oregon to main and south again are dumped on. OK we get some kids who really work, but in these new times of no parental controls the educator cannot teach 10 while 30 go messin around and don't care about anything. I'm looking to move to adult programs, construction programs, any program where the learner wants to learn. Hey and I'm a 15 year veteran of inner city trench war fare and I can't take it any more. And by the way I'm the only financial support for my own program. No money what so ever from anybody. So I don't know about everybody else but yes I think that the shop programs should be eliminated in middle and high school and should be set up for the adult mind. In years gone by kids taking shop were working and possessed adult tkinking minds. They used the experience to improve their work situation. Now days macDonalds doesn't need carpenters or crafts people.
