Eddie,
Good job! I've been teaching several years, and still find that I learn as much as they do.

Count me in. Tech is constantly changing computer settings so often my computer logs me in as a guest. I will save my log-in and password, then days later I am a guest again.

I use math, measuring, and blueprint reading exercises. Three or four questions using concepts needed in the shop. Quick easy to review/grade and a good indication of what I need to spend my time teaching in the future. This also gives them time to forget about what was happening in the hall/lunchroom/last classroom/girlfriend, before turning on a machine.

Someone mentioned earlier that they got a sizable discount from the big orange box store when they mentioned it was for the school. Personally I deal with a local hardware store and they do cost plus freight on machinery and parts. Their distributor ships freight free with a copy of the school P O (in most cases). I do shop local as much as possible and have found that the extra $$, is money well spent when I have a problem.

I've seen some of Tom's stuff and it is impressive, makes me wonder when he has time to make sawdust :-) I also use a permission slip and a written safety test for each machine and a "general" safety test, each must be passed 100%, however, mine is not open book. I give demonstrations, then have the student demontrate to me his/her ability to operate the machinery properly. I keep the safety test, even the ones they didn't score 100%, all bookwork that deals with safety, which must also be 100%, the performance check sheet and the permission slip signed by the parents. I document any safety infractions and have them retake the test for that machine and demonstrate proper usage. I have a zero tolerance for horseplay and improper usage of tools. I also have a good administration that understands the risks involved, so that when I have ask for a student to be permanantly removed, about once every two years so far, it happens. My administrators know that safety is first and formost in my shop, if we never cut a board at least we will be safe. I show them Saw Stops videos about accidents and "ouch" from taunton.com.
Hope this helps.

I am using Duskit and Denray. Duskit uses furnace type filters which need replaced often. Denray uses cotton sleeves which need to be cleaned (brushed) often. My district will by a table, machine, jig or fixture, before they would pay me to build one. ???

Thanks for the information. Who's multispindle machine did you purchase. What was the "magic" number dollar wise, and how high up the managerial ladder did you have to go before you found someone that knew what you were talking about?

Did I see a discussion involving cnc router comparisons or am I having a senior moment? I did a search and could not find one. I would like some input regarding reliability, cost, maintenance and whether this would be good in a high school situation.
Thank you

Does anyone use a multi spindle drilling machine for making adjustable shelf holes in their cabinets? If so what would you recommend, one like yours (what are you using) or something different? I am presently with out but see a need, if we are going to make cabinets in our cabinet making course. Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.
