Joe, and all, VA is on our list, of course. Right now we are going where the demand is greatest. We have the State of KY signed up, and are working with the States of California, Utah, Arizona, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, and Vermont. As a small 501(c)(3) non-profit, we continue to seek industry support for our efforts. It's coming. Yes, the wheels grind slowly. Add your voice on LinkedIn at the Woodwork Career Alliance page. Thanks for the bump, Jack.

Joe M., Joe N. and All: It's great to see this thread develop. The state of affairs today, Tuesday; October 12, 2010, is that the Passports are ready for the press; the Skill Standards are complete for over 30 tools and machines; the next 30+ tools and machines are in final review and will be published by the end of 2010.
Regarding evaluations, Evaluators, and Chief Evaluators we are in the recruiting phase at this point. Early in 2011 we will set up a training calendar. Trained Evaluators will be authorized to charge for their services, and will return a small fee to the WCA for each Passport stamp issued. While the Passport is the physical record of a woodworker's achievements, there will also be a permanent electronic record which can be accessed by the Passport holder.
The timeline and milestones for all this and much more will be worked out at the December Board of Directors meeting. More news will hit the Trade Press at the first of the year.
In the meantime, anyone who'd like to be considered for the post of Evaluator should drop me a line and we'll talk. Visit the website and even look in at the wikispace to see how we're doing. Authors and editors welcomed.
